Adventures On American Amtrak

In Aug 2015, Keith and I embarked on the trip of a lifetime!! We travelled from New York City to San Fransisco over 3.5 weeks. We travelled on the American Amtrak overnighter trains! We took an organised tour and booked with Great Rail on their USA Coast to Coast tour, opting for the trip extension to Yosemite National Park to conclude the holiday. Here’s our route (not including Yosemite at the end)

We left Heathrow on Aug 5th 2015 and blogged en route, mainly so we had a way to remember everything we had done- but hopefully someone out there will enjoy following our adventures too

  1. Hi Keith & Lydia,

It’s Phil from the US trip. Really enjoyed seeing the pics you posted, makes me sad I missed so much (it’s always interesting to see the places through others eyes). Your comments brought back some nice memories (except the one with the naked guy in L.A!)
I’ll try and check out the rest of your blog; looks like you travel WAY too much (thanks for posting the link on Peter’s site, The Geriatric Nomad – great name!)
I remember you talking about the Japan trip. I hope you go (and someone lets Keith play a piano somewhere…) Post more pics please if you do.
I’m looking into the Australia tour. Snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, Ayers Rock, rainforests, loads of good stuff. Even thinking of ditching the wine-tasting coach tour in favour of cage diving with sharks instead! (Great Whites!)

Hope you get this. Feel free to drop me an e-mail on that address. I’ll try and put some of my pics somewhere (although I ended up with about 1750, and 210 videos. Took ages to sort.)

All the best to you both,

    Phil

P.S Have you got Steve and Arlene’s contact details, I ‘d like to say Hi.

    1. Hi Phil

So nice to hear from you – we were sad that we never got to say bye to you properly!
Thanks for the nice comments re the pics- I’d love to see yours! Do you have a Facebook or flickr page?

We are looking at heading to Japan in 2017 – we nearly went for it for next year, but decided to wait till the following year as the term dates coincide a bit better with the trip departure! Australia sounds epic! Especially the Great White Diving- my friend did that in New Zealand earlier this year and LOVED it! Mind you, so does the wine tasting tour 🙂 When are you looking at going?

Don’t know about you, but we are really feeling the holiday blues! Your comment about not needing sick bags but instead new underwear after we landed after the Grand Canyon flight still makes me chuckle to this day! Recounted it to many a folk!

I can’t seem to find your email address on this comment so drop me a line at lydiaogorman@icloud.com – I have Steve and Arlene’s email, so will email it to you once you’ve emailed me. I know they will be pleased to hear from you as they emailed me last week asking if I had it, or your last name even- they were hoping to get in touch to say hi.

Take care, so good to hear from you

      Lydia and Keith
